Bendel Insurance Football Club, Sunday evening continued with their impressive run in the Nigeria Premier Football League as they beat Elkanemi Warriors 3-2 to move closer to the podium.
The Benin Arsenals maintained composure and resilience throughout the duration of game after surviving early goal scare by the visitors. Daddy Abdullahi scored in the 5th minute of action to put Elkanemi Warriors in front.
The host team remained unruffled despite the early goal deficit and kept pushing and got the needed equalizer through Kayode Oke who scored in a goal mouth scramble , following a deadly long throw assist by Henry Onyia in the 34th minute of the game.
Both teams went into the half time break on level terms after Insurance FC mounted pressure on the warriors had been well managed by the visitors.
On return to the pitch for the remaining half,Bendel Insurance continue to mount more pressure on the visiting Elkanemi Warriors until another opportunity provided itself in the
53rd when Henry Oyian rose higher than the warriors defenders in an aerial contest to nod home from a corner kick to give Insurance a deserved 2–1 lead over Elkanemi Warriors.
In the 63rd minute of action,Kayode Oke ran into space to finish off Adamu Yazid’s well taken free kick to increase the taly for Insurance FC .
The visitors were however lucky to reduce the goals deficit in the 87th minute when Shehu Lawal capitalized on goalkeeper Joshua Baba weak clearance who after Itoro Promise back pass.
Recall that Elkanemi Warriors defeated Bendel Insurance FC 2-0 in the first round and first fixture in the current season
Insurance FC are currently 5th on the table with 32 points and will be guests to Shooting Stars of Ibadan on Sunday, January 26,2026.
Insurance and 3SC ended their first round meeting 1-1 in Benin.
In a post match media conference,coach Kennedy Boboye praised his platers for their courage and discipline.
He said that work is still in progress in his bid to get a clinical goal scorer for Bendel Insurance, saying that goal scorers are few in the Nigeria Premier league.
